It is a requirement of waste management companies to have members of staff that hold a Certificate of Technical Competence (COTC), accredited by WAMITAB.

A deadline has been put in place by the Environment Agency of 29th February 2012, for COTC holders to take continuing competence tests.

ENVIRONMENT AGENCY ENFORCEMENT ACTION

Quote from Steve Eland, Environment Agency & Business Senior Advisor from the Environment Agency

"We are still concerned at the low level of take up of the continuing competence test. As a result we are now stepping up our compliance activity to monitor uptake by operators. We will take enforcement action against those who are unwilling to comply with the requirements by 29th February 2012. Enforcement action can range from service of an enforcement notice to revocation of the permit.

Steve Wilks and Barbara Behan, two members of the ICEX Ltd management team, have both passed their tests with flying colours in advance of the deadline. reinforcing ICEX Limited's commitment to complying and supporting the environment agency
